Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, former Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Oeiras Valley Investment Agency, and his delegation visited the City University of Macau and were warmly received by Vice-President Zhou Wanlei. The guests visited the campus environment and teaching facilities, and the two sides discussed the Macao platform, innovative development of China-Europe industry-university-research institutes, and Sino-Portuguese higher education cooperation. António Monteiro, Secretary-General of the International Institute of Macau, and José Alves, Dean of CityU Business School, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Vice-President Zhou Wanlei introduced CityU’s campus profile from aspects such as school policies, student training, interdisciplinary construction, and future development directions. He stated that in response to the demand for high-quality data support from industrial development, CityU is actively building high-tech institutions, quality interdisciplinary, and serving scientific and technological innovation and development with research results.
Dean José Alves introduced the development of the school in terms of curriculum, teaching staff, the Greater Bay Area alumni network, regional cooperation, etc. He also stated that the business school has been rooted in Macao for many years as a strategic link between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. A modern business school with innovative, sustainable development and a cross-cultural focus. The curriculum is designed to cultivate talents across disciplines and enhance students’ digital literacy and professional subject abilities.
Ambassador António Martins da Cruz introduced the local project Oeiras Valley from the aspects of geographical advantages, economic momentum, R&D resources, and future development. Oeiras is located in the west of the Lisbon metropolitan area. It is the second-largest non-financial city in Portugal. Its total turnover is second only to the capital Lisbon and its GDP ranks third. It is a highly developed city in Portugal and Europe. Oeiras Valley is a project supported by the municipal government. There are currently 24,117 small and medium-sized enterprises and 106 large multinational companies. It brings together world-class scientific and technological resources and aims to create a unique scientific and technological innovation ecosystem for Portugal.
Both parties hope to rely on the close ties between CityU and the Greater Bay Area, the advantages of the Sino-Portuguese platform, and the exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the European Union to promote high-end academic exchanges and co-organized courses with universities at home and abroad, explore opportunities for industry-university-research cooperation, help students innovate and start businesses, and create an international entrepreneur exchange platform, promoting the coordinated development of multilateral economic and trade cooperation, digital economic innovation and development, teacher-student exchanges, scientific research and innovation, etc.
Also present at the symposium were Professor Rui Gomes Pedro from the Center for Applied Literary and Scientific Studies at Sorbonne University in France; José Paulo Esperança, Vice Dean of CityU Business School, Professor Xie Dejun, and Director of the President’s Office.
