OVIA reinforces its commitment to developing relations between Portugal, Europe, and China

The Chairman of OVIA’s Board, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, attended the prestigious Portugal-China & Europe-China Cooperation and Development Forum 2025, at a seminar on “A New Era and New Opportunities”, held on February 18, in Lisbon.

This event, organized by the CCCEU – China Chamber of Commerce to the EU and promoted by the Bank of China, as well as the Association of Chinese Companies in Portugal (ASCP), brought together business and institutional leaders to discuss the future of economic and trade relations between Portugal, Europe, and China. The seminar was attended by renowned figures from the financial and diplomatic sectors, including the President of the CCCEU, Mr. Jens Eskelund, and His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Portugal, Mr. Zhao Bentang, as well as representatives of major Chinese companies.

China is one of the largest global investors and a key partner for Portugal and Europe, particularly in technology, the automotive industry, sustainable energy, and the digitalization of the economy. Among the event’s highlights were the presentation of the Report on the Development of Chinese Companies in Europe 2024/2025, which provided insights into the impact of Chinese investment on the European continent, and the founding ceremony of the Automotive Working Group of the CCCEU, which reinforced the importance of the automotive sector in the growth of bilateral relations.

For OVIA, this seminar represented another opportunity to strengthen ties with Chinese investors and entrepreneurs, explore new cooperation opportunities for Oeiras companies, and boost the portuguese business ecosystem, with Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, as OVIA’s leading figure, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between Portugal and China in the European context, highlighting Oeiras as a gateway to Europe and an attractive territory for innovation, science, and technology, in line with global trends in sustainable development and digitalization.

OVIA’s presence in international forums of this nature thus reaffirms its role in the internationalization of the economy of Oeiras and Portugal in promoting strategic partnerships that benefit the region and the country.
