On February 20, OVIA’s Vice-President, Pedro Matias, proceeded to a strategic intervention on the importance of the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, as part of the Brazil-Portugal Forum held at FIESP – Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo. This Forum, which was also attended by H.E. the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, as well as other members of the Government, was presented as a strategic milestone for strengthening Portugal’s trade relations, especially in the context of the opportunities that Brazil offers to Portuguese companies. This agreement, which aims to increase commercial cooperation between the two blocs, opens up new possibilities for Portuguese companies, especially those in the technology and innovation sectors.
During his speech, Pedro Matias underlined OVIA’s role as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable development, being a key player in the promotion of Portuguese companies in Brazil, also highlighting the importance of bilateral collaboration in strengthening the economies of both countries in creating renewed channels for technological development and digitalization, areas in which Portugal has excelled and, in particular, the municipality of Oeiras.
In addition, OVIA’s Vice-President had an active presence in discussions about the need for more foreign labor in Portugal, a topic that has generated increasing attention in the country. The shortage of qualified professionals, especially in engineering and technology, is a growing challenge for the Portuguese economy. For the Vice-President of OVIA, attracting professionals from abroad is key to ensuring that the Portuguese labor market remains competitive and capable of supporting the growing demands of innovation and digital transformation.
With a meeting planned between FIESP, OVIA, and the Municipality of Oeiras, as part of the business mission to Brazil that will take place in March 2025, OVIA has begun work that will contribute to building new partnerships and promoting the internationalization of Portuguese companies, particularly in Brazil.
The collaboration between OVIA, the Municipality of Oeiras, and FIESP thus has the potential to generate significant opportunities for companies from Oeiras and Portugal wishing to expand their activities in one of Latin America’s largest markets. The business mission will thus provide a space to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and pave new avenues for investment and the exchange of knowledge in innovation and technology, among others.
