OVIA attended the public presentation of the OEIRAS MAR 2030 Program

The Vice-President of OVIA, Dr. Pedro Matias, attended the public presentation of the OEIRAS MAR 2030 Program on March 13.

The OEIRAS MAR 2030 Program was presented at the World Ocean Summit, at the Lisbon Congress Center and was attended by the Mayor of Oeiras, Dr. Isaltino Morais, City Councillor Dr. Pedro Patacho, and members of the Municipal Executive.

The Municipality of Oeiras joined Fórum Oceano – Associação da Economia do Mar, the managing body of Portugal’s Blue Economy Cluster, certified and recognized by the Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs – at the World Ocean Summit, to present this new program, which consists of a municipal strategy aimed at accelerating dynamics and positioning the territory as a relevant hub of innovation in the Blue Economy realm.

For the Mayor of Oeiras, Dr. Isaltino Morais, the strategy presented is the first step towards major projects to be developed in the municipality where the main premise is the sustainability and enhancement of the Economy of the Sea.

“Oeiras is a research center par excellence, bringing together projects related to Science and Innovation to be developed in our territory, here linked to the Sea, is proof of this Municipality’s strategic commitment in this area, ” Dr. Isaltino Morais stated.

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, Peter Thomson, opened the session which also included a speech by the Mayor of Oeiras, Dr. Isaltino Morais, and the Chairman of the Board of Fórum Oceano, António Nogueira Leite.
