The visit, marked by engaging interactions and campus tours, showcased USJ’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration, with a particular emphasis on its recently launched Sino-Lusophone Business Incubation Base.
On Monday, 25th March, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao had the honour of receiving Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal and Chairman of Oeiras Valley Investment Agency (OVIA), and his delegation including Professor Rui Gomes Pedro, Founder of Sustainable Goals (SG), and António Monteiro, Secretary-General of International Institute of Macau (IIM), for a courtesy visit to USJ’s Ilha Verde Campus.
The Ambassador, in his first visit to USJ Macao, was warmly received by Prof. Alexandre Lobo, Head of the Laboratory of Applied Neuroscience, and Prof. José Manuel Simões, Head of the Department of Media, Art and Technology, who extended a gracious welcome on behalf of the University. The Ambassador had the opportunity to explore the campus facilities, immersing himself in the friendly and open atmosphere that characterises the Ilha Verde Campus.
During the campus tour, Prof. Simões provided an introduction to the state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge equipment, and advanced technologies housed on the 6th floor of the academic building, belonging to the Department of Media, Art, and Technology, and the Department of Architecture and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The delegation was impressed by the exceptional resources and the inspiring environment offered within the Ilha Verde Campus.
Furthering the tour, Prof. Lobo guided the delegation to the Laboratory of Applied Neuroscience, located on the 5th floor, where Mr. Emil Marques from the Faculty of Business and Law delivered a presentation on the recently launched Sino-Lusophone Business Incubation Base in Henqin. The delegation displayed an enthusiasm for this innovative initiative by the University, recognising its potential to foster entrepreneurship and, collaboration.
Following the tour, the delegation met Professor Stephen Morgan, the Rector of USJ. The meeting served as a platform for fruitful discussions on potential avenues for cooperation, including the establishment of strategic partnerships between OVIA and USJ that would further solidify USJ’s regional and international prominence, encourage inward and outward investment flow, business opportunities and exchange between the Oeiras Valley and Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
The visit by Ambassador António Martins da Cruz served as a catalyst for meaningful discussions and laid the foundation for future collaborations that will propel USJ and its Incubation Base to the forefront of regional and global innovation ecosystems.
