Strategic reflection on CPLP–China relations marks international session in Lisbon

OVIA was represented at the China Session – “30 Years of the CPLP: What Future for Relations with China?”, held on 22 January at the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre (CCCM) in Lisbon. The event brought together academics, institutional decision-makers and experts for an in-depth reflection on the role of the CPLP within the current geopolitical and economic international context.

The session included the participation of the Chairman of OVIA’s Board, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, who took part in the panel dedicated to assessing the 30-year trajectory of the CPLP and exploring future prospects for relations with the People’s Republic of China. His intervention highlighted the importance of multilateral dialogue, strategic cooperation, and the role of Portugal and Macau as key platforms linking China with the Lusophone world.

Organized by the CCCM in partnership with the Global Strategic Platform, the session underscored China’s growing relevance in the international system, as well as the challenges and opportunities facing Portuguese-speaking countries in a global landscape shaped by profound economic, energy and geopolitical transformations.

OVIA’s participation in this forum reinforces its commitment to promoting strategic thinking, international cooperation and the positioning of Oeiras as a territory open to global dialogue, economic diplomacy and the building of bridges between different regions and cultural spaces.
