OVIA strengthens strategic partnership with Hong Kong

OVIA attended the exclusive Chinese New Year celebration dinner held on February 17, at the Estufa Fria in Lisbon. The event was organized by the HKETO – Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, in partnership with the PHKCCI – Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the HKTDC – Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and brought together leading figures from the business, diplomatic, and institutional worlds.

During the event, OVIA’s Chairman of the Board, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, and its Secretary-General, Tiago Sousa Dias, reinforced the Investment Agency’s commitment to promoting Oeiras as a hub for innovation and international investment, as well as bringing Portugal and Hong Kong closer together. As well as celebrating the historical and economic ties between the two territories in the context of the Chinese New Year celebrations, this meeting also provided a privileged opportunity to explore new synergies and strengthen strategic collaborations.

The participants also attended speeches by the Special Representative of the HKETO – Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, Shirley Yung, and the Director of the HKTDC – Hong Kong Trade Development Council for France, Spain, and Portugal, Christopher Lai. Both emphasized the importance of strengthening trade relations between Hong Kong and Portugal, highlighting opportunities in the areas of innovation, technology, trade, and bilateral investments.

OVIA’s presence at this meeting is particularly relevant given that, in 2024, the Investment Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PHKCCI – Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to strengthen relations and promote new business opportunities and business cooperation between Oeiras and Hong Kong. This agreement reflects the mutual commitment to promoting joint initiatives and facilitating the internationalization of companies.

The event culminated in a formal dinner, at which participants had the opportunity to deepen discussions and explore possible areas of collaboration. OVIA remains committed to fostering strategic international relations and supporting the creation of bridges between Oeiras and the world’s main economic centers.
