As part of its mission to Hong Kong, Macau, and Hengqin, OVIA organized a meeting on June 2 with Christopher Hui, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government. This meeting followed a conference promoted by OVIA at the Temple of Poetry in Oeiras in March 2024, where Christopher Hui served as the keynote speaker on the topic of “Business Opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.”
The OVIA delegation, led by Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, engaged with Secretary Hui on strategic issues aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. This meeting built upon the earlier discussions held in Oeiras and concentrated on solidifying the partnership between OVIA and the investment promotion agency Invest Hong Kong, which was also represented at the meeting.
Key topics of discussion included deepening institutional collaboration between OVIA and Invest Hong Kong, planning future joint initiatives, and encouraging active participation from entities in the Greater Bay Area in events organized by OVIA.
It is important to note that last year, OVIA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Invest Hong Kong, establishing a framework for ongoing collaboration in developing investment opportunities, innovation, and internationalization for Portuguese companies in the Asian market.
This meeting reinforces Oeiras’ status as a strategic partner for foreign investment in Portugal, particularly in relation to key financial and technological centers in Asia.
