Custom Circus, a transdisciplinary theater and visual arts company and an integral part of the Nirvana Studios project – an alternative cultural center founded in Oeiras in 2003 – broadcasted the premiere of the television documentary “Loco’Motive – The Iron Horse” on September 12 at the Temple of Poetry in Oeiras, whereas OVIA was in attendance.
The television documentary was directed by West Coast Films, in partnership with Action 300 and SN Films, and reveals the entire artistic operation carried out by Custom Circus around a Borsig locomotive from the early 20th century.
“Loco’Motive – The Iron Horse” is a complex cultural project that involved several institutions and companies: the National Railway Museum Foundation, the City of Oeiras, the City of Entroncamento, CP – Comboios de Portugal, and Infraestruturas de Portugal, among many other associations and entities, such as the members of the Biker Convoys and other volunteers who contributed to making this project a reality.
The 99 tons of art in the Loco’Motive piece are mainly dedicated to motorcyclists, given that in the 19th century, the steam locomotive emerged as the first motorized vehicle, earning the name Iron Horse. Still, decades later it was the motorcycle that embodied that title. Therefore, in this installation, Custom Circus captures the moment when the motorcyclist came to symbolize freedom on wheels through its post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
This television documentary will premiere on the TVI channel at a date yet to be determined.
