The Oeiras Valley Investment Agency (OVIA) held its third Strategic Council meeting on November 26, at the Lagoas Park Hotel’s Congress Center in Oeiras. The meeting gathered OVIA’s members – experts from various sectors – along with the Board of Directors, General Assembly Board, and Investment Agency Members to discuss key issues crucial to the region’s development and the country. The central focus was on the Economy of the Sea and the future of Oeiras and Portugal in this context.
A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Teresa Coelho, a member of the Strategic Council, former Secretary of State for Fisheries, and Director of Docapesca. The presentation centered on the opportunities and challenges within Portugal’s Economy of the Sea and its significant impact on Oeiras. Coelho outlined the sector’s potential as a major driver of growth and innovation, not only for the region but also at the national level.
Other agenda items included a review of the activities carried out by OVIA since April 2024 and an overview of the Agency’s plans for 2025 and 2026. Additionally, participants discussed Portugal and Oeiras’ role in the global geopolitical and economic landscape, with a particular emphasis on strategies to attract investment and foster a thriving business environment.
This meeting reinforced OVIA’s strategy to position Oeiras as a leading innovation hub with a strong focus on the maritime sector, recognized as an area of immense growth potential for Portugal. The discussion highlighted the maritime economy’s capacity to fuel sustainable development, contributing not only to the region’s growth but also enhancing Portugal’s position within the broader European and global markets.
Through its continued efforts, OVIA aims to bolster Oeiras as a center for innovation and sustainable development, pivotal in creating a dynamic, competitive business environment that attracts and retains investment. This, in turn, will drive economic growth both in Oeiras and across Portugal, cementing the country’s status as an investment-friendly destination on the global stage.
