The Chairman of OVIA’s Board, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, was the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of the 18th Edition of Oporto Model United Nations (OPOMUN) on February 12 at CLIP – Oporto International School.
This event brought together young students aged 14 to 18 and aimed to simulate diplomatic debates at the United Nations, promoting critical thinking, negotiation, and global understanding. The meeting was also attended by institutional representatives, directors of international schools, and members of the Porto City Council, who presented the “Study in Porto” program.
During his speech, the Chairman of the Board of OVIA addressed the role of diplomacy and international cooperation in solving contemporary global challenges, sharing his vast experience and vision of the impact of informed debate and diplomacy as essential tools for a more sustainable and peaceful future, encouraging participants to reflect on their role as future leaders and agents of change.
Ambassador António Martins da Cruz also answered questions from the participants in a dynamic Q&A session, promoting an open and inspiring dialog.
OVIA’s participation in the Oporto Model United Nations reinforces Oeiras’ commitment to the training of young leaders, economic diplomacy and beyond, international cooperation, and the promotion of strategic thinking in the global context.
This event contributed to highlighting the importance of involving the new generations in the great debates of the future and reaffirming the relevance of Portugal and its institutions in the international geopolitical context.
