On June 4, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between OVIA and the International Institute of Macau – IIM during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the renowned institution, presided over by Jorge Rangel.
The purpose of this memorandum is to formalize cooperation between the two entities, aiming to jointly promote cultural, academic, and economic initiatives while strengthening the historical and strategic ties between Macau and Portugal. The agreement also facilitates the sharing of knowledge on public policies, internationalization, and economic development within the Portuguese-speaking world.
The event featured a conference titled “Forest of Deceit or Opportunities in Uncertainty: Europe, China, and America Today,” delivered by Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, Chairman of the Board of OVIA. In his speech, the Ambassador analyzed current geopolitical challenges and their implications for countries and regions with a multilateral focus, such as Macau and Portugal.
The session was attended by prominent figures from Macau’s institutional scene, including former President of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, DAnabela Sales Ritchie, Ambassador Alexandre Leitão, Consul General of Portugal in Hong Kong and Macau, and Jorge Neto Valente, who highlighted the importance of the meeting and its potential to strengthen relations between the two territories.
This agreement between OVIA and the International Institute of Macau reinforces the role of the Investment Agency as a key interlocutor in relations among Portugal, China, and the Portuguese-speaking world, while positioning Oeiras as a platform for knowledge, dialogue, and international cooperation.
