Oeiras hosted the Mayor of Maricá and representatives of Rio de Janeiro City Council on an institutional visit

On April 24, the Mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, welcomed the Mayor of Maricá, Washington Quaquá, in the Noble Hall, accompanied by Maricá City Councillor Andrea Cunha. This was a moment of high diplomatic symbolism and strengthened international institutional relations between both municipalities.

Members of the Rio de Janeiro City Council also attended the visit, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and the sharing of good practices between Oeiras and relevant cities in Brazil. In the afternoon, the delegation took part in a technical visit to Taguspark, one of Europe’s largest and most dynamic science and technology parks, located in Oeiras.

Representing OVIA throughout the visit and meetings was the Chairman of OVIA’s Board, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, who underlined the agency’s commitment to monitoring and boosting strategic relations with international partners.

This institutional reception followed the Business Mission to Brazil organized by OVIA in March 2025, demonstrating the first concrete results of this economic and territorial diplomacy action. The interest shown by Brazilian entities in getting to know Oeiras’ ecosystem of innovation, science, technology, and quality of life is a clear sign of the municipality’s growing international attractiveness and the positive impact of the internationalization strategy led by OVIA.

The visit made it possible to deepen the dialog about future opportunities for economic, academic, and cultural cooperation, in line with the principles of innovation, sustainability, and shared development that guide Oeiras’ strategic vision.

With initiatives like this, Oeiras City Council and OVIA reinforce their position as active players in promoting global networks of talent, knowledge, and investment.
