New opportunities: strengthening bridges between Oeiras and Hong Kong

On February 18, OVIA had the honor of receiving the Director for France, Spain, and Portugal of the HKTDC – Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Christopher Lai, in a meeting marked by the strengthening of economic and institutional ties between Oeiras and Hong Kong. The meeting, which took place as part of his visit to Portugal for the Chinese New Year reception in Lisbon, saw OVIA represented by its Secretary-General, Tiago Sousa Dias.

During the meeting, various possibilities for collaboration between Oeiras and Hong Kong were explored, namely in supporting the internationalization of companies, promoting investments, and joint participation in international fairs and events organized by the HKTDC. Oeiras, as a hub of innovation and technology in Portugal, has a dynamic business ecosystem that is highly attractive to foreign investment.

The HKTDC’s Director for France, Spain, and Portugal also highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a strategic hub for companies looking to expand into Asian markets, underlining the HKTDC’s various initiatives to support SMEs in accessing new business opportunities. For its part, OVIA reinforced Oeiras’ commitment to establishing international partnerships that boost economic growth and business innovation, opening the door to renewed synergies with Hong Kong’s business ecosystem.

Following this productive meeting, opportunities for developing joint initiatives and business missions between the two regions were established. OVIA thus reaffirms its commitment to positioning Oeiras as a privileged destination for global investment, strengthening its links with strategic markets such as Hong Kong.
