ESCP Business School chooses Oeiras Valley for an immersive journey into innovation and career potential

From April 1-3, Oeiras Valley hosted an inspiring initiative that brought together global talent and local innovation. At the invitation of ESCP Business School – whose Master’s in Marketing program ranks 4th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and is among the top 5 in Europe according to the Financial Times – OVIA, represented by its partner and member, PhD Professor Rui Gomes Pedro, welcomed a cohort of international students for a deep dive into the Oeiras Valley ecosystem.

The immersive week-long experience was designed to introduce students from eight nationalities to the unique advantages of Oeiras as both a professional and personal destination. More than just a study trip, the initiative aimed to offer participants a first-hand understanding of the region’s vibrant innovation landscape, outstanding quality of life, and promising career opportunities – potentially laying the foundation for future relocation and professional integration.

The program opened with a compelling keynote by Francisco Gonçalves, Deputy Mayor of Oeiras, who shared the strategic vision and operational blueprint of the Oeiras Valley project. His address underscored the municipality’s strong commitment to nurturing international talent, fostering innovation, and promoting a balanced lifestyle that harmonizes professional ambition with personal well-being. He emphasized the region’s exceptional conditions for career growth, entrepreneurship, and academic excellence.

The visiting students – final-year master’s candidates with an average age of 26, many of whom have already secured job offers through company engagement at ESCP – were particularly struck by Oeiras’ progressive social policies, including initiatives that support access to higher education for underprivileged youth.

Throughout the week, students engaged with industry leaders and innovative companies that form the backbone of the Oeiras Valley ecosystem. Visits included SIC, Compal, and Nestlé, as well as VML (WPP Group), which boasts a robust client base in Oeiras. The itinerary also featured stops at Diário de Notícias, where they were received by the CEO and Director, and at Estádio da Luz, for a strategic communications discussion with Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s media team.

PhD Professor Rui Gomes Pedro, an expert in strategic communication, praised the academic depth and professional relevance of the visit, noting its value in inspiring future case studies at ESCP. Meanwhile, Professor Benoît Heilbrunn – a renowned authority in strategic marketing and a familiar face in leading French media outlets such as TF1, M6, France Inter, and BFM Business – voiced his admiration for the region: “Of all the places I’ve seen around the world, this is among the best environments for young international professionals to thrive,” he stated, applauding the collaborative efforts of Oeiras City Council and OVIA and predicting a bright future for the region.

By organizing this initiative, OVIA once again reaffirmed its role in positioning Oeiras and the Oeiras Valley as a national benchmark for innovation, talent development, and quality of life. The visit left an indelible mark on its international guests – who, having seen it up close, now view Oeiras Valley not just as a destination, but as an opportunity.
