On April 3, the members of the Oeiras delegation visited Digital Manufacturing Ireland (DMI), located in the National Technological Park in Limerick. This institution, promoted by IDA Ireland (Foreign Direct Investment Agency), is a national reference center created to support the digital transition of the Irish industrial sector and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global context of Industry 4.0.
During the visit, the members of the delegation were welcomed by the DMI’s technical team, who presented its main areas of activity, ongoing projects, and the collaborative model that integrates companies, research centers, universities, and public bodies. The center provides direct support to businesses in adopting advanced technologies such as intelligent automation, collaborative robotics, augmented reality, 3D printing, digital twins, industrial IoT, and real-time data analysis, fostering more efficient, sustainable, and innovation-driven production environments.
In addition to the technological demonstrations, the DMI’s mission to democratize access to digital transformation was highlighted, providing technical and strategic support, especially to SMEs, through training programs, specialist consultancy, and the sharing of good practices.
For Oeiras, which is home to a diverse and technological business base, the visit to the DMI was particularly relevant. The municipality is also committed to promoting the modernization of its companies, the digitalization of local industry, and bringing science, innovation, and production closer together. The DMI’s successful model is thus a practical example applicable to the Portuguese context, reinforcing the importance of collaborative ecosystems and innovation centers geared towards the real economy.
This visit consolidated the strategic alignment between Oeiras and the most advanced regions in Europe in the field of intelligent and sustainable industry, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to the future of technological innovation and knowledge-based economic development.
