Delegation of startups from Macau met with OVIA

On May 7, OVIA welcomed a delegation of startups from Macau to its headquarters in Oeiras, in a meeting reinforcing the agency’s role as a strategic link between Portugal, Macau, and China. The visit, which was attended by OVIA’s Secretary-General, Tiago Sousa Dias, aimed to deepen economic relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation between the two territories’ innovation ecosystems.

This meeting is part of OVIA’s ongoing strategy to promote Oeiras as a gateway for Chinese and Macau companies to the European market, as well as to facilitate the internationalization of Portuguese companies to the Greater Bay Area and other regions of China. The agency has played an active role in building bridges between markets, as evidenced by the joint organization of workshops with the City University of Macau on business opportunities in the European Union.

During the meeting, presentations were made by the various companies present, operating in diverse sectors such as the blue economy, fintech, education and IT, as well as the Oeiras Valley ecosystem, and bridges were built with national and international stakeholders with whom these startups can collaborate in the future to deepen relevant partnerships.

The presence of the Macau delegation in Oeiras symbolizes the strengthening of ties between the two territories and highlights OVIA’s commitment to fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial bilateral relations. The agency continues positioning itself as a key facilitator in promoting investment and strategic partnerships between Portugal, Macau, and China.
