An Atlantic innovation bridge between Portugal and Brazil

On 4 March, the Secretary-General of OVIA, Tiago Sousa Dias, held an online meeting with representatives of the São José dos Campos Technology Innovation Park (PIT), one of Brazil’s most prominent technology hubs.

The meeting was facilitated by OVIA’s International Representative in São Paulo, João Pedro Neto, and aimed to explore opportunities for strategic cooperation between the innovation ecosystems of Oeiras Valley and São José dos Campos, a Brazilian city that has recently joined the select group of cities with the highest quality of life standards worldwide.

The meeting aligns with the vision of creating an “Atlantic Innovation Bridge”, connecting two highly complementary ecosystems. Oeiras Valley, in Portugal, stands out for its strong scientific base, the presence of leading research centres and its proximity to the European market. In turn, the São José dos Campos Technology Innovation Park (PIT) hosts one of Brazil’s most advanced industrial clusters, with strong specialization in aerospace, defence, advanced engineering and technological manufacturing.

During the meeting, several potential areas of collaboration were discussed, including soft landing programmes for companies, internationalisation initiatives, business matchmaking and joint innovation and technology transfer projects.

Cooperation between these two technological platforms may enable European companies to use PIT as a gateway to the Brazilian and Latin American markets, while Brazilian companies may find in Oeiras Valley a strategic hub to access the European market and European Union innovation programs.

This meeting represents a first step towards building a structured partnership between the two territories, strengthening the international dimension of Oeiras Valley and opening new opportunities for innovation and investment between Europe and Latin America.
