Between 9 and 22 July, OVIA Secretary-General Tiago Sousa Dias and OVIA’s representative in China, Li Kang, took part in Beijing and Xiamen in the Thematic Capacity-Building Seminar of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries on the Green and Blue Economy, organized in cooperation with the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), an institution of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM).
OVIA’s participation in this international program is particularly significant in the context of its strategy to deepen relations with China and Portuguese-speaking markets, providing an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into policies, development models and cooperation opportunities in the fields of the green economy, blue economy, sustainability and economic development.
The program included sessions on China’s economic modernization, economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, the development of the green economy, international cooperation for sustainable development and the blue economy.
The working program also included a visit to Xiamen, where participants explored concrete experiences in urban development, the restoration and enhancement of marine ecosystems, the ocean economy, maritime and port trade, coastal tourism, and rural and cultural revitalization.
One of the highlights of OVIA’s participation took place during the opening ceremony, where Tiago Sousa Dias delivered the opening address, representing the Investment Agency before the participants and Chinese entities involved in the programme.
OVIA’s participation therefore provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional and international contacts and deepen its understanding of Chinese experiences in strategic sectors, creating new possibilities for dialogue and cooperation between Portugal, China and the other Portuguese-speaking countries.
For OVIA, the seminar also represented an opportunity to showcase the Oeiras Valley model internationally as an ecosystem of innovation, investment and knowledge, while identifying new avenues for cooperation in sustainability, the blue economy, innovation and economic development.
