Meeting at the University of Macau strengthens academic and innovation cooperation

On October 27, the Oeiras Valley Investment Agency (OVIA) officially concluded its institutional mission to Macao, Hengqin, and Guangzhou with a working meeting at the University of Macau (UMAC), attended by Professor Francisco Leandro, an academic and expert in relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, President of OVIA, and Tiago Sousa Dias, Secretary-General, were welcomed at UMAC for a session focused on academic cooperation, applied research, and knowledge transfer between Oeiras and Macao.
The discussion explored new opportunities for scientific exchange between universities, research centers, and technology companies in both territories, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, sustainable energy, and the blue economy.

Professor Francisco Leandro highlighted the importance of building knowledge bridges between Portugal, Macao, and Mainland China, noting OVIA’s role as a facilitator of synergies between academia, science, and companies.

Ambassador António Martins da Cruz stated that the University of Macau is an essential partner for academic dialogue and the development of innovation networks that bring Oeiras closer to the Asian context. Tiago Sousa Dias emphasized the practical dimension of academic cooperation, adding that universities are key drivers of innovation and must be at the core of technological development strategies.

This meeting marked the culmination of a highly successful mission, during which the OVIA delegation held meetings with governmental, scientific, and business entities across Macao, Hengqin, and Guangzhou, further consolidating Oeiras’ position as a European hub for science, technology, and international investment.
